Lots of posts, not much cake
Wow, not said hello for a while, and lots of you have blogged. Nice starter for the day from Carol, thanks.
To confirm, that the next briefing is on the 7th October, and will be in the morning. I can't remember the times, but will start when I get there!!! i guess something like 9.30-11.45 would be the equivalent, and then we're not having to rush away madly. If we are there earlier, then we finish earlier.
All people who have blogged should be allowed a piece of cake with their tea.

ICT Roadshow...
I met the boss of 2Simple... Nigel Canin...
He is eager to try to give his software away...
In his latest offer he has 28 titles (worth £8000) bundled up for £999 if you are an existing 2Simple customer.....!
They are such titles as:
2Animate
2Calculate
2Connect
2Control NXT
2Create
2Create a Story
2Draw
2Email
2Handwrite
2Investigate
etc etc etc.....
He seems to be a genuine bloke who really believes his software is wonderful...
I told him I'd like the graphs to work better in 2Investgate...!
He may be trying to give them all away at a very decreased price so that he can get online and devote time to our Learning Platforms...!
Still - if you want more info - see his flyers or ring him on 02082026370
or emil him @ collection@2simple.com
but make sure you say it's come from me and you might get a small school's discount and bring it down to £699.00...!

Next ICT co-ordinator briefing (autumn)
A reminder, if I've got it right, that we decided on Tuesday 7th October.
We were undecided on am or pm, so here is your last chance to state a preference. I guess if we went for a morning, it would be 9.30-11.45, leaving you enough time to get back to school. Whilst childcare issues mean I might be a bit tight for time on arrival, at least I don't have to rush off and leave a room of eager beavers. Having to go back to work though sounds a little depressing... so I'm still happy to do it in the afternoon, as long as I've left just before 4.00.
Vote NOW.
I'll remember to bring a projector next time too, and someone requested 'cake' on the evaluation form... not sure about that, but we can always try?

Earthquake!
On Wednesday morning at 1 o' clock, an earthquake, measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale went through thousands of houses. The epicenter was in Lincolnshire, but it was felt through much of England. I was asleep at the time, but I still felt a slight tremor.
There have been twenty call-outs of the fire brigade, but only four were necessary. A man's chimney fell off his house, causing the road to be blocked. One man said 'The whole house felt as though it was falling down'.
This has been the largest earthquake for nearly 25 years. Most of my family felt it, and the dogs ran upstairs. My brother really felt it, and he said he fell off his bed. My Mum and Dad woke up and checked that everyone was alright.
I have found last night quite exciting, but I'm sure many people did not. I hope there isn't another earthquake as that might cause more Damage.

Dr John's 'Blogging with pupils...'
Blogging (and other web2.0 ideas) are having a mixed response so far at our brieifings. Most consider them an exciting new tool to explore, hoping to tap into children's eagerness to use ICT, and sometimes to tap into our own passion for learning too! However others have considered it 'another thing to fit in' or 'ICT for the sake of it' - I don't see it like that, but feel the need to collect your ideas on how best to start blogging with a class. Perhaps if I start with some initial thoughts, and you could help throw in suggestions:
1. Rules. Get all the relevant permissions from senior management, parents, and alter ICT policies if required. Discuss/agree rules with the pupils involved.
2. Plan ahead. Have an idea of what you might post, say weekly over a two month period, so that the pupils have fresh things to read or do each time they visit.
3. Integrate. Fit these activities, questions, quizzes into the context of learning in your class.
4. Involve. Encourage parents to visit and give feedback to pupils comments/work/answers - make this another home/school/community link.
What do you think? It would probably help if I (or should I say, the County Council) created some sample policy statements, suggestions for class blogging rules, and activity ideas...?A big list of activity ideas would be useful, so get replying!
I'll start with two:
1. Homework specific research question - give the children a website you've vetted, and pose a quick couple of questions for them - the first three correct answers posted back get some kind of class reward/team point.
2. Post a photo of their pet (pet topic), evening meal (healthy eating), something magnetic/something that uses electricity (science topic) - be sure to have reinforced guidance on a 'safe' photo to post!
Thanks
Hi everyone, well done to Pete for setting this up, and letting me join in. I hope it gives you lovely people a chance to experiment, learn something new, and communicate more effectively with each other. You have so much knowledge to share, and so many questions to ask - it seems a shame if it only happens once a term!
Enjoy.
Enjoy.

High Peak ICT Cluster...
Well, here we are...
A post to start us off...
Here's a space for us to start asking questions, sharing good practice and generally moan about Dr John. (He won't mind...)
Click on New Post (top right) to add your own writing...
Have a good look around, play with it as much as you like...
Don't forget to add a tag/label bottom right, then we can organise and retrieve quickly.
If you're here it's because I've managed to remember how to invite you!
